Málaga Urban Public Transportation Enterprise (EMT)

Málaga Urban Public Transportation Enterprise (EMT) has 40 bus lines (with both, hybrid and electric vehicles). EMT provides the following innovative services: real time bus Schedule, talking informative panels, free Wi-Fi internet Access, apps, mobile payment methods and solar panels. We had the opportunity to meet first hand their Victoria Project (Vehicle Initiative Consortium for Transport Operation & Road Inductive Applications), the first project of its kind in Spain in an urban public transport system. The Victoria project is the starting point of a wireless en-route charging for electric buses for Malaga. The project will be developed for a specific bus route in Malaga. This improves substantially the vehicle’s profitability and efficiency as it aims at doubling the range of electric buses without affecting operating times. The inductive technology also helps to reduce the volume and weight of batteries, thus reducing their cost significantly. The new triple charging system is entirely innovative on a worldwide level as well as being the first real wireless charging experiment in Spain.
